The feeds in my news reader have gotten stale. Many are defunct. Others are voices I've heard from forever. Still others just aren't relevant to me anymore. I need fresh perspectives. New inspiration.

So, I'm pulling out a few favorites and chucking the rest.

Send me your recommendations to rebuild.

I'm particularly looking for content on branding, experience and great work. But, if it's a good industry blog, I'm not worried about the category.

I'll publish the survivors and newbies on a (long-missing) blogroll in two weeks.

National Email Forgiveness Day

Happy National Email Forgiveness Day!

A holiday I've been trying to get off the ground for a few years now. And, frankly, without near the resources or share-of-voice that Hallmark had when it snuck Sweetest Day in on us.

On this - one of the most blessed of days - we choose to set all the emails in our inboxes to 'mark as read.' The old college roommate who sent photos in September. The LinkedIn requests from last February. The random mushy email from your mom. The I-should-really-read-this articles and ideas sent from valued colleagues. All gone. Wiped clean. Today, all inboxes shall be empty and fresh to start the year.

And, we, grateful people, having one burden lifted from our to-do lists, shall blanket forgive all the people - say, ad bloggers, daughters, former college buddies, for example - who may have failed to reply to our messages throughout the year. We know they meant to. And, today, the knowledge of that good intention is  more than enough.

Today, good people, we start anew. The fresh cursors flashing in shiny empty boxes...

Ahhh.

Does your CD do banners?

Yet another highly-questionably-designed survey has revealed this counter-intuitive truth:

Although seven of ten men 18-34 are going online more than ever before, they consider television a better advertising medium

Surely, there are lots of rational arguments to be made - about in-stream behaviors, history of ROI, quality of experience, etc.

But, I wonder if our industry - far beyond the media buying department - plays a self-perpetuating role in the success of broadcast vs. Internet advertising. One where our very best creative minds & most inventive strategists are at work pushing the bounds of aging mediums while interns and newbies churn out banners and boxes for the Web.

How different would Internet advertising look if our industry awarded the talent and prestige to it that it's long given the :30-second spot.

I doubt it would look much like a banner or a box...
